Myndos Gate .. enter through the gate and be privileged to visit
Halicarnassus.
In
4th C BC, King Mausolus of Caria transferred his capital from
Mylasa ( Milas )
to Halikarnassus ( Bodrum ) and made it the political and cultural
centre. Mausolus enclosed Halicarnassus with powerful city walls
and watch towers. These powerful walls made the
city very tough for Alexander the Great to invade.
Myndos
Gate was one of the main entrances to the city. It was named
after the ancient City of Myndos ( Gumusluk ), as it faced in
that direction. In recent years, it was restored and today
the gate will take you back to those glories days for a moment.
